The "Turing Vest" - 2016 The “Turing Vest” was the next step in creating tech infused clothing after the “Brain Dress.” This vest was created for computer scientist Lenore Blum and represents her work on Real-Valued Turing Machines. The fabric is custom printed with binary interspersed with “real numbers” that represent her work. These “real numbers”, printed red instead of white, are backlit by red LEDs that light up randomly in response to sound. The lights are controlled by a custom programmed Lilypad Arduino Microcontroller. All of the tech is carefully planned out and sewn in with conductive thread, in-between layers of fabric to prevent short-circuiting. The Lilypad can be snapped out through a pocket for cleaning and charging. I strove to create a garment that tells a persons story in an innovative way, while still staying completely wearable.
